First Stop, the Villa; Second Stop, the Groceries: Quesada Shopping Guide
You’ve finally arrived at your holiday villa in Ciudad Quesada. The sun is shining, the pool looks inviting, and you are ready to unwind. But before you can fully relax, there is one essential task to tick off: the big holiday food shop.
When you’re catering for a family or a group of friends for a week or two, a quick trip to a corner shop won’t cut it. You need a proper supermarket with great variety, fresh local produce, a fantastic selection of wines, and—most importantly—plenty of parking so you can load up the boot of your rental car without any stress.
Fortunately, the area surrounding Ciudad Quesada is a goldmine for excellent supermarkets. Here is our insider’s guide to the best places to do your big holiday shop in and around Quesada.
Mercadona
Location: C. Valencia, S/N, 03178 Benijófar, Alicante
Best For: Fresh fish, local Spanish items, and high-quality supermarket brands.
Mercadona is Spain’s favorite supermarket chain, and we are lucky to have excellent branches right on our doorstep. There is a large, modern Mercadona located on the road between Ciudad Quesada and Benijófar.
The Vibe: Exceptionally clean, bright, and well-organized.
What to Buy: Head straight to the fresh fish counter (pescadería)—the selection is incredible, and the staff will clean and prep the fish for free. Their in-house brand, Hacendado, offers fantastic quality at low prices. Don’t skip the fresh orange juice machine where you can squeeze your own bottles of local Spanish oranges.
Parking: Generous, free underground or surface parking makes it incredibly easy to load up your rental car.
Consum
There are 2 Consum supermarkets within Ciudad Quesada
Locations: Urbanización D. Pepa, Av. de Salamanca, 03170 Rojales, Alicante and Av. Guatemala, 1, 03170 Rojales, Alicante
Best For: International brands, a great deli counter, and absolute convenience.
Both supermarkets are conveniently located inside Ciudad Quesada’s main Urbs. Consum is arguably the most convenient choice if you are staying in the heart of the urbanization.
The Vibe: Very friendly and highly accustomed to catering to expats and holidaymakers.
What to Buy: If you are craving specific brands from home, Consum often stocks a better selection of international items than Mercadona. Their butcher counter (carnicería) and deli counter (charcutería) are excellent for picking up local cheeses, Serrano ham, and fresh meats for an evening grill.
Parking: Large dedicated outdoor car park. It can get busy during peak summer hours, but there is usually plenty of space.
The Food Co.
Location: C. Vigo, 1, 03170 Cdad. Quesada, Alicante
Best For: Premium British brands, family favorites, and a taste of home.
Situated right in the Doña Pepa area of Ciudad Quesada (on Calle Vigo), The Food Co. is a massive favorite for holidaymakers and expats alike who want premium British goods.
The Vibe: An absolute haven for UK shoppers, offering a bright, spacious, and familiar supermarket layout.
What to Buy: They are an exclusive supplier of major UK favorites, stocking thousands of products from Tesco, Waitrose, Co-Op, Morrisons, and Iceland. It’s the ultimate place to pick up branded British cereals, crumpets, Cadbury chocolate, premium chilled meals, and British-cut meats.
Parking: Convenient, dedicated parking right outside the store, so you can easily wheel your trolley straight to the boot.
Lidl
Location: Av. de los Regantes, 6, 03170 Cdad. Quesada, Alicante
Best For: Incredible bakery treats, great weekly discounts, and European favorites.
Located just a short drive from the main high street on Avenida de los Regantes, this Lidl is modern, spacious, and brilliant for a fast, affordable holiday shop.
The Vibe: Fast-paced, organized, and very budget-friendly.
What to Buy: Lidl’s bakery section is legendary for a reason—head here early in the morning for freshly baked croissants, baguettes, and pastries for breakfast. It’s also fantastic for affordable fresh fruit, vegetables, and European cheeses. Keep an eye out for their famous “Middle of Lidl” weekly aisle where you can often grab cheap beach towels or BBQ tools.

The Vibe: Bright, clean, and incredibly relaxed to shop in.
What to Buy: Aldi is brilliant for stocking up on juices, soft drinks, and beer for the villa fridge at fantastic prices. Their fresh meat section is excellent, offering great quality marinated meats, burgers, and skewers that are perfect if you are planning an evening poolside BBQ.
Parking: A massive, wide-spaced surface car park makes maneuvering and loading your rental car completely stress-free.
Mas Y Mas
Location: Av. de las Naciones, Izq. Bajo, 03170 Cdad. Quesada, Alicante
Best For: Unbeatable convenience upon arrival, fresh local meats, and fantastic regional cheeses.
You literally cannot miss this one. Situated right at the iconic Ciudad Quesada arches on the main high street (Avenida de las Naciones), masymas is usually the very first supermarket holidaymakers spot when driving into town.
The Vibe: Bright, compact, and incredibly welcoming. It feels like a bustling, classic community supermarket.
What to Buy: Their fresh butcher (carnicería) and deli counters are exceptional—perfect for loading up on local Spanish chorizos, steaks for the BBQ, or fresh slices of Manchego cheese. They also boast an excellent selection of local Valencian and Alicante wines at very reasonable prices.
Parking: There is a dedicated parking lot located directly behind the store. Because it’s right at the entrance to town, it can get busy at peak times, but having a rental car makes it easy to swoop in, grab your essentials, and head straight up to your villa.
Pro-Tips for Your Holiday Food Shop
Don’t forget the bags: Spanish supermarkets do not give out plastic bags for free. Pick up a few heavy-duty reusable bags (bolsas) at the checkout on your first visit, or remember to pack some in your luggage.
Check the Sunday closing hours: Most major Spanish supermarkets close on Sundays. However, international spots like The Food Co. in Quesada are often open on Sundays (usually 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM), which is a lifesaver if your flight lands over the weekend!
Keep it cool: The Spanish sun is hot! If you are buying ice cream, fresh meat, or dairy, try to make the supermarket your last stop before heading straight back to the villa so your shopping stays fresh in the car.
